Studying online: Dropping out or staying in?

This page explains one of the key problems with self-study, as a background to the rationale for the design of the Project Management Concepts course.

Adult learning is not so straightforward. The dynamics of attending classes at a learning institution (complete with due dates for assignments, tests and exams) are different from the dynamics of self-paced learning or even date-driven online learning.

Many of the qualities needed to stick to a course and to gain from it in a contextual way are the Personal qualities which are required of a project manager according to the PMCD Framework and other competency models.

In other words, you are not going to get even the theoretical Knowledge unless you already have some of the key Personal qualities… and the courses typically assume that you have those already!

So you’re stuck.

This is where the Project Management Concepts course is very different. We don’t assume that you’ve already fully developed those attributes. We assume that you want us to help you in growing them as you work towards gaining Knowledge in pursuit of improvements to your Performance.

So, what does it take? Find out what you need to know first.
