Who we are

Your journey with us will help you do remarkable work in a remarkable way.

What we do

We provide training, mentoring, tutoring and coaching in Project Management and related disciplines to organisations and individuals. Established in 1999, we’ve been refining our training in Project Management for more than 20 years.

Alignment

We work to the requirements of an enabled Project Management environment and the Project Management Competency Development Framework (PMCDF) of the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

What our clients value

The industry within which we work is marred by cynicism. Our services are designed to meet the common-sense needs of people who really want to make it work.

Our clients value…

  • Knowing the right answers
    Asking the right questions
  • Passing the subject
    Mastering the art
  • Exam results
    Business results

Unique offerings

All of our offerings are standards-centred, referencing the PMI®‘s PMBOK® Guide, PRINCE2®, and Agile principles. However, over the years we’ve learned that one size fits none. Our core offerings, and their modes of delivery, are therefore designed to make Project Management work for you at work:

Other services

We provide a Project Management Learning Advisory Service and booking facilitation for exam preparation training. International exams (e.g. PMP®®) are provided via recognised, authorised and accredited organisations and testing centres throughout southern Africa. APMG examinations (e.g. PRINCE2®) may also be taken at our Cape Town office.

What we stand for

We believe that integrity and integration are interdependent. This means that Project Management training should be designed to lead to better support systems and structures, enabling the individual to make promises with growing confidence, knowing that it’s possible to keep them. The best learning takes place when it’s contextual to your work, and your way of working; when you’re actually doing the work and making the right mistakes.

What we strive for

We dig for underutilised and underestimated potential in individuals and project teams. We look for what really matters in projects, and we work hard to remove the obstacles to learning.

How we do it

Our Project Management training is aligned to producing outcomes that feed into personal and organisational strategies. Recommendations are based on goals and strengths. We guide you towards asking the relevant questions. Outcomes are not stated as earth-shattering overnight changes. Rather, changes take place incrementally: step-ups result from implementation, not from training per se. Training may take the form of a practical rapid-results workshop, Consultative Tutoring in Microsoft Project, online collaborative learning, or customised in-house learning events followed by ongoing support during implementation. We respect the confines of time and money. If Project Management training is to work in an organisation, it must be part of Project Management implementation.

Influences

Amongst the many thought leaders whose ideas have made an impression on us are Seth Godin, Eliyahu Goldratt, Peter Senge, Max De Pree, Richard Rumelt, Donella Meadows, Sugata Mitra, Carol Black, Ken Robinson, W. Edwards Deming, Dave Snowden, Paul Cilliers and Salman Khan.

Directors

Marius Cloete

Director: Organisational Learning

Marius Cloete, Director: Organisational Learning at ProjectManagement.co.za

After university, Marius managed numerous housing developments before eventually starting a business in manufacturing for the construction industry. Having used ‘big business’ approaches to developing systems for his own small company, he started O-I-C Business Integration in 1998 with Tania Melnyczuk, with the intention of implementing IBM software solutions in similar smaller businesses. By 2009, Project Management training had become the primary focus of this organisation.

Marius is in a lifelong learner and developer of people. Over more than three decades, many of those who worked for him, beginning with no more than a (sometimes unfinished) high school education, ‘graduated’ from his ongoing mentorship as career-builders and entrepreneurs, some with university qualifications to boot.

A natural strategist and avid reader who chose diligence as his ally, Marius has a deep understanding of the on-the-ground mitigation of risk, not only in respect of time, quality and cost, but also of relationships and culture. His Rule for Risk fosters the kind of environment needed for Project Management to work effectively. It has become one of the hallmarks of learning programmes at ProjectManagement.co.za.

Marius is developing a comprehensive Project Management tool based on the PMBOK®. He employs Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints (TOC) in his manufacturing business,. He is currently managing a project on behalf of a customer, implementing a production line which he designed based on the TOC in a new factory.
