Before you join a Study Group Meeting
Our Study Group Meetings are held in Google Meet. If you’re new to Google Meet, you can learn more about it here.
Please make sure that you’re able to use Google Meet with a friend/family member/colleague before you come to the Preparatory Meeting or any actual Study Group Meeting. To get going, click here.
It can take quite a while to smooth out hitches, so do this a day or two before joining us.
Practice how to turn your microphone and camera on and off, and how to use the chat. You may discover that your microphone or camera is not working, and that you can hear the other person and see them, but they can’t hear or see you. If your device is wonky like that, you can still join the Preparatory Meeting and Study Group Meetings and just use the chat.
You can use a computer or cell phone, or both at the same time. (There’s a Google Meet app if you’d like to use that on your phone.) If you use two devices at once, you’d need to turn off the sound and microphone on one of them, otherwise you’ll get nasty tweety feedback sounds.
Bear in mind that some of the things we show on the screen will look tiny on a phone. In some Study Group Meetings we won’t be showing things on the screen, so that won’t matter.
