Now in its 9th year, this 2-day practical Workshop differs from a regular short course, in that it is designed around the specific requirements of participants.
The Workshop is also part of the Practical Certification Programme in Project Management.
In the Western Cape, the Intensive Weekend Workshop in Project Management is held at the Devon Valley Hotel near Stellenbosch, 50 km from the centre of Cape Town. Accommodation for out-of-town participants is available at the hotel itself, or in Stellenbosch or Kuils River.
The Workshop is unique, designed for an immediate impact on the management of your projects. It also provides a direction for long-term improvement and a gateway for career development.
Saturday
The Workshop begins at 07:45, when you are introduced to your team.
The learning facilitator designs the team composition in advance, based on the questionnaire which you and other participants submitted prior to the Workshop. (If you are new to projects, you will be grouped with a suitable team based on your industry or other criteria.)
At the start of the Workshop, the participants’ goals are summarised and turned into a brief. Intensive learning sessions take place throughout the day at our uniquely designed Collaboration Tables, with discussions and exercises based on your actual work. (You won’t be sleeping through a prepared PowerPoint presentation—this is real learning!)
Tea breaks include fresh protein-based snacks for sustained energy, and lunch is served overlooking the vineyards.
The afternoon sessions finish shortly after 17:00.
Sunday
The goals of the previous day may be reviewed and adjusted based on new insights and needs identified as a result of the previous day’s learning.
Revision exercises entrench methods and techniques learned the day before.
The Devon Valley Hotel’s world-renowned Sunday buffet lunch provides further opportunity for direction-setting discussions with other team members, and with the facilitators. (Lunch is only 45 minutes, so you may need good time management skills if you want to get in three courses!)
By the afternoon, you’ll start to analyse and plan your own real project, based on this learning.
Before your departure, you will be encouraged to consider your next steps. These will depend on your unique goals and needs, but could include
- the entrenchment of your learning via an online course in Project Management Concepts,
- Consultative Tutoring in Microsoft Project, or
- a serious conversation with key stakeholders back on the job!
You may also want to stay on afterwards to discuss your organisational change requirements or long-term career goals with the learning facilitator, Tania Melnyczuk, or with the Director of Organisational Learning at ProjectManagement.co.za, Marius Cloete.
